My Salad Box

In a recent post I talked about the 60 Days to Reclaim Your Health program.  I've really been enjoying the daily videos -- what a wealth of knowledge and experience Hallelujah Acres has to share with the world.

While watching one of the videos one morning, my eyes lit up when they shared the idea of having a salad box in your fridge.  It's a perfect way to keep veggies prepared and ready to use for making salads, wraps, smoothies, etc.  When we come home from a busy afternoon and start to prepare dinner, if my lettuce and veggies are still in the plastic bags in which they came from the grocery store, there's a very good chance we won't go through the trouble and mess it takes to make a healthy salad.  So when I saw the idea for the salad box, I knew it was something I wanted to implement in my kitchen.

I took measurements of the refrigerator shelf I planned to use, and the very next day I went to Wal-Mart and found containers that would work for my refrigerator.  I found smaller containers that would fit inside the larger boxes, so I could separate each of the veggies I chose to use.  (I don't use the lids for the smaller containers, only the larger box lid -- that way I don't have so many lids to deal with when using the veggies and putting them away.)

I don't always have as many items as you see in the picture above, but with a salad box, the work is done ahead of time, everyone is able to make their salad the way they like it, and I'm happy that everyone is eating healthy!  I simply refill the containers as they empty, varying them somewhat from day to day, and we always have veggies & toppings ready to use.  Great idea, isn't it?  Maybe you'd like to give it a try!

  1. I LOVE this idea! Like you mentioned...I sometimes choose the more unhealthy choice because I don't want to go to the trouble of chopping, shredding, etc. Thank you for sharing! I'm now following. :)
