Our deck has seen better days. Much better. When you step on a board and you sink while the opposite end pops up like a seesaw, and when the boards are so warped and rotten there is no fixing them, it's way past time to get rid of the deck! Lots of work though. It's a huge deck. But as my hubby says, "How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time." And so because of his past back and heart problems, he gets out there and works on it a little at a time.
Our plans are eventually to lay a brick patio, and build a pergola coming off of the house... hopefully an attractive and welcoming place, with partial shade where we can sit outside. Somewhere we'll have a fire pit, and the scraggly garden you see in the above picture will be removed and rebuilt into two raised gardens over by the fruit trees.
We live on a very limited budget, and so this project may take quite some time to finish, but that's fine with us! Proverbs 13:19 says, "...desire accomplished is sweet to the soul:" and so even though it is slow, it is still rewarding to see the project being accomplished little and by little.
Here's a picture of Carl, one quarter of the way through the deck demolition. I'll have to post updates as the project progresses!
Look I told you to tell me when you were working on it, and I would come over and help. Let me know, I want to learn how to tear up a deck:)
ReplyDeleteThank you for your offer, Joseph. Carl may call on you! :)
